Safari 15 issues: Browser crashing YouTube bookmarks, some websites won’t load on macOS Catalina

macOS Monterey is slated for release later this year with Safari 15, with key new features including redesigned tabs, grouped tabs, automatic site switching from HTTP to more secure HTTPS when available, faster performance, improved security, etc. Apple also released Safari 15 for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina last week.

Unfortunately, some customers have experienced a few issues with Safari 15, which we’ve highlighted in more detail below.

Problem creating YouTube bookmarks

On macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey beta, it appears that attempting to bookmark a YouTube page in Safari 15 causes the browser to crash.

The problem was demonstrated with a video shared by Krazy Wabbit YouTube Channel. As a temporary workaround, the video states that users can create a bookmark folder for YouTube videos and then drag YouTube pages to the Safari sidebar folder.

Page load problem on macOS Catalina

On macOS Catalina, some users of the Apple Support Communities, MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and Twitter reported that some websites do not load in Safari 15, affected users receiving a “problem has occurred repeatedly” error message.

Affected users have said that disabling JavaScript fixes the problem by clicking Safari in the macOS menu bar> Preferences…> Security and unchecking the Enable JavaScript box, but it’s not an ideal solution. Fortunately, it seems that users can fix the issue permanently by reinstall Safari 15 with a package from Apple’s servers.
