Case Study: Lantronix FOX3 Telematics Gateway Powers SATLOG Fleet Management System
By integrating the Lantronix FOX3-3G-BLE Telematics Gateway (#F35HGZFS), SATLOG has created an intelligent fleet management solution that offers cost reduction potential to its customers.
Remotely capturing vehicle movement, location, driver status and other vehicle-related data, the SATLOG solution securely shares information and analytics through its cloud-based management platform, giving users of information to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Challenge: Remotely controlling IT for small retail sites
In fleet management, the cost of a breakdown, such as a vehicle recall that results in a service interruption, can cost tens of thousands of dollars. SATLOG’s mission was to create a mobile telematics solution designed to improve fleet productivity and reduce costly breakdowns.
- Find a rugged tracker for harsh industrial environments
- Provide self-maintenance of the tracker, including device management
- Provides the ability to customize the edge to meet specific requirements, such as stop analysis by motion sensors built into FOX3
- Provides proven integration with Oracle, which allows REST FOX3 proprietary protocols
- Have the ability to quickly make adaptations to capture custom data
Solution: Lantronix FOX3 Series Telematics Gateway
To remotely capture and securely share fleet information, SATLOG chose Lantronix’s FOX3 series telematics gateways.
The FOX3 is a gateway that is integrated with the SATLOG ecosystem and transfers stop times, driving events, latitude, longitude, fuel KM/mile, temperature, tire pressure (tire pressure system continental tires), alerts from the Preco TurnAssistant to the Cloud as well. SATLOG Truck removable shelves installed in the cockpit of the truck. Truck drivers can also generate electronic proof of delivery documents with detailed delivery timestamp information, including truck body temperature transferred from FOX3 to tablet by RS232.
The FOX3 tracker connects via RS232 to a special SATLOG Android™ Truck tablet for task distribution, navigation and use of the reversing camera.
Captured data is sent to the cloud and accessed remotely through Oracle Cloud and Web Browser as an overall solution. Each telematics solution provider or large company with truck fleets can have its own Plug&Play ecosystem. A Linux-based telematics server for configuring FOX3, Plug&Play FOX3 settings communicate with the configurable Android TourManager app on the tablet.
Results: digital fleet and actionable insights that increase efficiency and reduce costs
Using the Lantronix FOX3 Tracker in addition to the Truck Tablet, SATLOG does TourPlanning and sends optimized routes to the Tablet’s navigation system. FOX3 securely collects and shares real data, which becomes the foundation for analytics data that provides actionable insights to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
“Over the past few years, SATLOG has generated more than 5.4 million stops as well as approximately 600,000 vehicle tracking events each month,” said Dr. Jürgen Stausberg, Managing Director of SATLOG GmbH. “Using Lantronix’ FOX3 Tracker, SATLOG collects critical data from every vehicle in the fleet, allowing users to make real-world data decisions that affect their bottom line,” he added.
