Congress Launches ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ Website, Bills It People’s Movement

New Delhi:

Congress on Tuesday launched the logo, slogan and website for its upcoming “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, billed as a mass contact program of unprecedented scale.

Addressing a press conference, Congress Secretary General Jairam Ramesh said the main yatra will cover 3,570 km from Kanyakumari in the south to Kashmir in the north over a period of about five months starting from 7 september. Simultaneously, smaller “Bharat Jodo Yatras” will be taken in various states.

Digvijaya Singh, who heads the party’s yatra organizing committee, told the press conference that Congress Speaker Sonia Gandhi wanted people from all religions, castes and communities to participate in the campaign.

Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will attend the Kanyakumari yatra.

“There will be 100 ‘padayatris’ walking from beginning to end. They will be ‘Bharat Yatris’. 100 yatris will be involved from the states through which the journey will pass, it will be ‘Pradesh Yatris.’ At a time, there will be 300 padayatris,” Singh said.

Responding to a question, he said, “Rahul Gandhi is a great leader of the country and will be a ‘Bharat Yatri’ in the yatra.” Singh said the country had never witnessed a “padayatra” or any mass contact program of this magnitude before.

“We are proud that the Congress, which secured the independence of the country through a popular movement, now aims to restore social harmony and prevent the country from losing its character through the popular movement,” he said. he declares.

“We want to bring Bharat Jodo Yatra in the form of a public movement,” he said.

Singh and Ramesh unveiled the yatra’s slogan – “Mile Kadam, Jude Watan” – a four-track pamphlet.

The leaders also launched the website and urged those wishing to participate in the yatra to register there.

“Ek tera kadam, ek mera kadam, mil jaye to jud jaye apna watan (one step to you, one step to me, together they can unite India),” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet and also put the logo of the yatra as her Twitter profile picture.

Congress Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also tweeted the yatra’s slogan and put the logo on her Twitter profile picture.

Several Congressional social media handles changed their profile picture to display the logo.

Ramesh said that Rahul Gandhi identified three main reasons for the Bharat Jodo Yatra – economic, social and political.

He said the yatra was needed as the country faced severe economic challenges due to inflation, unemployment, concentration of economic wealth and growing regional disparities. He also pointed to social polarization based on caste, religion, dress, food and language.

Ramesh alleged that there were political challenges due to the increasing use of Center institutions and the complete weakening of states.

The walk will cover 12 states and two union territories.
