When people say they want a website, they often focus only on how it will benefit their business. That’s certainly part of the equation, but so are much less compelling things like ongoing maintenance, attention, and risk management. It’s worth it, sure, but you want to make sure you know what you’re getting into and how to mitigate the challenges. So here are some things to consider when it comes to website maintenance, whether you’ve already launched your site or are in the planning stages.
First, continuous content updates are a must. With Google having by far the largest search engine share, it is important to know what criteria it uses to drive traffic to websites. Chief among these ranking factors is high-quality, frequently updated content. What Google is looking for, in effect, is proof that you care about your website. If you update frequently, Google will assume you’re invested; if you don’t, it’ll assume you’re not and drive traffic, or not, accordingly.
