The Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 has just been unveiled and hopefully it doesn’t trigger anyone’s arachnophobia. The new gaming router debuted at CES 2022, and its spooky antennas are far from the only notable features.
The 16000 is the first quad-band gaming router, which means four distinct traffic bands that give your downloads and uploads more options if they need to switch signals while in operation. Those four options include two 5Ghz bands, one 2.4Ghz band, and a 6Ghz band exclusive to Wi-Fi 6E, the fastest of the bunch – its highest transfer rates can reach 4.8 gigabits per second. There are also several LAN ports, two of which can accept transfers up to 10 Gbps.
If you’re not technically minded, don’t worry. All of these numbers mean super fast internet speeds for multiplayer, streaming, or other online gaming functions. The router also features Asus-specific tools for boosting the Wi-Fi signal in your home, server tips for specific games, and other acceleration features.
The ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 will hit the market later this year, and it’ll retail for $ 649 when it does. That said, that price sits somewhere in the middle of the hardware we’ve seen on CES 2022 so far. In terms of new graphics cards, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti costs $ 1,499, while the Radeon RX 6500 XT. from AMD costs $ 199.
